Having successfully built and tested on my development machine some proof of concept mngo/amqp code, when deployed to the live server the amqp client just won't start and I cannot figure it out. I have spent a whole day and a half and I am out of ideas.
I have tried various versions of Erlang, both matching the development machine (R14B02, erts5.8.3) and more recent (R14B04, erts5.8.5) to no avail.
I am tearing my hair out over this one, nobody seems to have any answers. The dev. machine is Ubuntu 64-bit the server is Arch 64 bit but all proper packages have been installed.
Also, we have an identical server running RabbitMQ and it runs fine with amqp_client_2.7.0 so there would appear to be no architectural reasons why AMQP shouldn't run on these boxes.
Currently this is built with a BASH script until I (still learning OTP!) create the "final" masterpiece, the script is attached.

solved!
The live box had RabbitMQ server installed from packages for Arch. This did not seem to include "/usr/lib/erlang/lib/rabbit_common-0.0.0" so I had to download and build rabbit from source then manually copy that folder from the dist folder.
Job done.
