I'm seeing this in /var/log/rabbitmq/startup_err on startup of RabbitMQ on
an Amazon image I built. I've run RabbitMQ on this image before several
times without a problem.

/var/log/rabbitmq# cat startup_err

Crash dump was written to: erl_crash.dump
Unexpected behaviour from operating system high resolution timerAborted

I don't see a erl_crash.dump file anywhere. /var/log/rabbitmq/startup_log
is empty.

The process which starts rabbit is running as root. It execs

/usr/bin/sudo /etc/init.d/rabbitmq-server start

When I ssh in to the machine and run that command manually, it succeeds:

# /usr/bin/sudo /etc/init.d/rabbitmq-server start
Starting rabbitmq-server: SUCCESS
rabbitmq-server.

Thanks for any help,
Terry

A little bit more info, the RabbitMQ running on the machine is 1.6.0-1
installed via apt-get with source:

deb http://www.rabbitmq.com/debian/ testing main

And it's running on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.

Googling for the error brings up a handful of posts in the Erlang
discussion mailing list, including this one with a possible workaround:

Regards,

Matthias.

I found the erl_crash.dump file (in /var/lib/rabbitmq). It's 25K and just
from a quick scan doesn't seem to show anything too suspicious, apart from
the first lines:

=erl_crash_dump:0.1
Fri Aug 14 15:22:23 2009
Slogan: Unexpected behaviour from operating system high resolution timerSystem version: Erlang (BEAM) emulator version 5.5.5 [source] [64-bit] [async-threads:0] [kernel-poll:false]
Compiled: Tue Dec 11 01:12:11 2007

and maybe

Program counter: 0x00000000007b2dd0 (unknown function)

I'm happy to email it if it might help.

Thanks a lot. I actually did a couple of searches (including on the Rabbit
archives) but I guess I was putting in too much text as I got no hits.

I'll try a sleep. It's odd because something else has also just (this
afternoon) started failing for me on EC2: installing Python modules (via
setup.py) and then failing to be able to import them right away. I used a
sleep on that one too, and it still failed. Maybe a 30 second nap will
help. Power-napping in the clouds.

I guess something has changed on EC2 (I'm not using EBS in case anyone's interested.)

Thanks again!

Terry
