I've been writing a bit of code in Erlang (with a colleague who is started about the same time as I did). Unfortunately I've asked a few questions that I'm still waiting to have answered, so rather than bumping some fairly old threads (months old) I thought I'd aggregate them and start a new thread. I've really enjoyed my Erlang experiences, but think I could get even more productivity if these could be addressed.
1) What is the preferred IDE development environment for Linux/FreeBSD? I need Erlang R12B3 support since I use the array module in my work. I want syntax highlighting, auto indent, profiling and debugging support from my environment.
2) I haven't been able to get profiling to work in Distel at all. I use Xemacs version 21.5.28 on OpenSuse, and a relatively recent (a few months old) version of Distel. I've never had joy with that (I can give more details if someone is willing to help, but I'd like to keep the post manageable in size). Does anyone here use the profiler in distel? Can I get a quick howto, or some help please?
3) Likewise, debugging has never worked for me in Distel, and I'm not sure why? Can anyone give me some hints? I can provide more details for anyone willing to assist, but I'd like to keep this post manageable in size. Also, the compile buffer option in distel works great, except I haven't figured out how to get it to embed debugging info.
4) It looks like the Dialyzer has changed its syntax. I'm doing Monkey-see Monkey-Do embedding of -spec and -type statements, but to be honest, this isn't the same as having some documentation on how to do it. For Erlang to take over the world (well it is getting more popular don't ya know ), the documentation should be in some other language than Erlang .
In spite of this, we've gotten some nice coding results, but getting these sorts of things would make a good thing even better. I'm hoping some more experienced folks can give some pointers or tell success stories that can guide me to figure out where I've gone wrong.

I've found some documentation for the -spec() syntax, see
http://www.erlang.org/eeps/eep-0008.html for details.
I still don't fully understand the type syntax for lists yet.
This makes the following issue moot.

It is amazing how quickly I found this (and made myself feel quite foolish) after I posted my query. |
