I am seeing some unexpected network traffic that appears to originate
from a debian machine running an instance of rabbitmq. Can someone
confirm a rabbitmq broker never tries to initiate any kind of tcp socket
connection please.

Thanks,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

Plain RabbitMQ, without any plugins, doesn't open outbound sockets for
AMQP traffic. However, if you have it clustered, it will open outbound
sockets for Erlang distribution traffic. Furthermore, even in a
non-clustered setup, there will be Erlang-related localhost traffic to
epmd. Finally, some plugins (e.g. shovel) open outbound sockets to other
hosts.

Regards,
Tony
