| Since this site is all about Erlang, I was just wondering why the forum is a PHP forum (phpBB). Is there any Erlang forum software out there? |

Not at the moment no, the site is running PHP with MediaWiki and phpBB as it's foundation right now.
This is mainly because there is no mature enough wiki software and I haven't seen any forum at all written in Erlang? I been thinking about writing a forum but haven't had the time to even start.
Our hopes is that when the web development side of Erlang really get going that we will gradually or in one go replace everything with Erlang only code. At least that is my hope.
Interesting things is happening and frameworks is being built so I think in the near future we will see some really interesting web projects in Erlang.
Of course it would be nice if Trapexit could somehow lead the way, but I think the community gain more if the site is useful instead of under heavy development. |

Erlang is a perfect fit for web development. The problem we are facing at the moment is lack of components. There is no way we would have achieved what we have with trapexit had we not used off the shelf components such as PhPBB, MediaWiki and Planet. We hope to migrate the site to Erlang some day (as we did with the www.erlang-consulting.com site), but to simulate the media wiki and PhP functionality, we will be needing lots of volunteers.
What I wrote above is summarized in the paper we presented at the Erlang workshop in Portland last year: http://www.erlang-consulting.com/erlangworkshop06/erlang_web_development.html

I certainly understand. I use open source PHP projects for my sites as well, even though I don't like PHP. There's just so much php stuff out there.
I've considered writing some open source forum software in either Erlang or Ruby. I'm a stronger Ruby developer, but Ruby's threading issues might defeat the purpose of making highly scalable forum software. |

Sounds like the perfect excuse to brush up and come up to speed with your Erlang skills
