I have ejabberd configured to use the unixODBC drivers with MySQL.

The reason I'm using ODBC and not the built-in MySQL drivers is because I need to be able to specify an alternate port, and I didn't see how I could do that using the built-in driver.

if you are using mysql5, check this: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/
5.0/en/gone-away.html
